I'm deeply interested in how things work. I love making new things using untested strategies, and improving things building upon proven strategies. There's nothing quite like software engineering that provides an environment for pure creation. Exciting, right?

I got my professional start in UI Design. I was purely tasked with the graphic art of using visual design tools to create mockups, then chuck them over the fence to let the software developers have at it. After years of watching my precious designs get botched - I went back to learn what it would take to become a UI Engineer myself. This empowered me to envision, design, AND develop my own products. Full stack designer? Is there such a thing?

Lately I've gone even deeper - Mobile JS frameworks, Node and even and MySQL! 😱

Ok, but what about outside of work?

Before software, I had convinced myself that I was to become a mechanical engineer. By the time I was eleven years old I had ticked my dad off by completely disassembling the family lawn mower and putting it back together incorrectly. That's when he knew I needed an outlet - so my father helped me purchase a second-hand go-kart at the local track. The best part? It was in pieces! That sweltering summer in North Carolina was one of my fondest childhood memories. Putting a go-kart back together with the promise of careening down our road, bugging the "you-know-what" out of our neighbors in a high compression single piston kart with a homemade straight exhaust pipe. All. Day. Long.

All these many years later I've built motorcycles, ATVs, a donor mountain bike converted into a mini "chopper" with an engine, and several project cars - my current favorite? A 400hp turbocharged 98 Honda Civic coupe sleeper car, which I purchased - you guessed it - in pieces. I also dabble with fabrication in the garage, welding, woodworking, electrical, plumbing, remodeling the list goes on.

Circling back - I love learning how things work, and I love learning how to improve them. All of this puts the UI layer of the internet right up my alley.
